Detailed Itinerary
Day 1: Moshi – Londorossi Gate – Mti Mkubwa (Forest Camp)
Elevation: 2,100 m to 2,780 m
Distance: 6 km
Hiking Time: 3–4 Hours
Habitat: Rainforest
After breakfast, depart from Moshi for Londorossi Gate, where registration formalities for Kilimanjaro National Park are completed. Continue by vehicle to the Lemosho trailhead before beginning your hike through lush tropical rainforest.
The gentle trail winds beneath towering trees covered with moss and ferns, where black-and-white colobus monkeys and colorful birds are often seen. Arrive at Mti Mkubwa (Big Tree Camp) for your first overnight on the mountain.

Day 2: Mti Mkubwa Camp – Shira Camp 1

Today’s trek follows the important acclimatization principle of “climb high, sleep low.”
Cross the scenic Shira Plateau before ascending to the impressive Lava Tower (4,630 m), where you’ll stop for lunch and acclimatization. Afterwards, descend into the beautiful Barranco Valley, famous for its giant senecio plants and dramatic cliffs.

Day 4: Barranco Camp – Barranco Wall – Karanga Camp

After breakfast, climb the famous Barranco Wall, one of the highlights of the Lemosho Route. Although steep in places, it requires no technical climbing and rewards trekkers with spectacular panoramic views.
Continue through alpine valleys and ridges before reaching Karanga Camp, where you’ll rest and continue acclimatizing.

Day 5: Karanga Camp – Barafu Camp

Today’s hike is relatively short but important as you make your way to Barafu Camp, the final base camp before the summit attempt.
After lunch, spend the afternoon resting, preparing your climbing equipment, and attending a summit briefing with your guides before an early dinner.

Day 6: Barafu Camp – Uhuru Peak – Mweka Camp

Around midnight, begin your summit attempt under a star-filled African sky. Trek steadily toward Stella Point (5,756 m) before continuing along the crater rim to Uhuru Peak (5,895 m).
Celebrate reaching the highest point in Africa while witnessing a spectacular sunrise above the glaciers.
After photographs and celebration, descend back to Barafu Camp for a short rest before continuing down to Mweka Camp for your final night on the mountain.
